OUR THREE PILLARS

Education

In 2004, approximately 34% of all eighteen to twenty-four year olds were enrolled in colleges or universities. The college enrollment rate in rural areas (27%) was substantially lower than the enrollment rates in cities (37%) and suburban areas (37%).

Health

For the 60 million people living in rural areas (about 19% of the U.S. population), the odds of dying prematurely from chronic illness are significantly higher than those faced by their urban counterparts. Primary chronic disease killers include: heart disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, diabetes, and stroke which are significantly higher rates in communities of color.

Entrepreneurship

The shortfalls for rural entrepreneurs include the lack of access to capital/lender relationships, startup loans, and mentorships. This gap is even wider if you are in groups that have been historically underserved. Business equity in the United States represents just 4.8% for African American families and 7.0% for Hispanic families.

Our New Initiatives

H.O.P.E. is an acronym for "Helping Others through Partnerships and Exchanges". Our

current initiatives focus on youth and entrepreneurship. We are collaborating with educators who have an opportunity to expose their students to additional resources that will engage and encourage them to reach higher heights. Our programming includes an age-based curriculum with lessons demonstrating the basics of entrepreneurship and activities to engage the students with real-world business issues to solve.
