Funding of Student-Led Canteen

Hello and happy November! We hope you are enjoying the transition to cooler weather and the foliage change!

If you recall, we launched our inaugural entrepreneurship program this summer at my old high school in South Carolina. It was exciting and was a huge accomplishment for the organization.

In August, two phenomenal teachers from Williston-Elko High School in Williston, SC reached out to H.O.P.E. Collective and asked for funding to support a group of students with an in-school business idea, a student-led canteen. (Fun fact: a canteen is a place at school where students can purchase snacks or other food items.)

Without hesitation, we welcomed the opportunity to have an impact! This initiative is part of an entrepreneurship course in which the students receive course credit toward graduation. Our funding was used as seed money to purchase non-perishable items needed to complete their menu. Proceeds made from this initiative will be put back into the program to expand the menu items and to build up the necessary supplies. We are excited to see how the students develop their entrepreneurship skills!

The impact of our program has been remarkable. Participants gained an understanding of the entrepreneurial mindset. They developed essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication. These skills are not only valuable in the business world but also in the various aspects of life and academia. The launch marked a significant milestone in our mission to empower the next generation and has inspired us to continue expanding and refining our mission initiatives of health, education, and entrepreneurship in rural communities of color for the future. We are especially committed to nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit in young minds, empowering them to become future leaders and change-makers. Pictured are two extraordinary and courageous high schoolers who participated in the business plan presentation at the end of the session. Their ideas were unique and innovative! We are so proud of them and will continue to watch what they do to change the world.
